What is CBT?
Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are constantly influencing one another — a stressful thought can spark a wave of emotion, which then drives how we act, which reinforces the thought all over again. CBT works by interrupting that cycle. Instead of just managing symptoms as they come up, we look at the patterns underneath them: the self-critical thoughts, the cravings, the stress reactions that keep showing up. Often these patterns trace back to core beliefs formed long before you ever walked into a therapy room — beliefs that once made sense but now keep you stuck. CBT gives you a way to name them, examine them, and start responding differently.
As your therapist in Calgary, I work with adults and youth navigating addiction, recovery, anxiety, and the everyday weight of life and mental health. Together we build a practical, collaborative process — one that gives you real tools to use between sessions, not just insight for insight's sake.
Is CBT Right for You?
CBT tends to be a good fit if you're looking for a structured, practical approach — one that gives you tools you can actually use, not just a space to talk. It works well whether you're dealing with anxiety, addiction and recovery, or just feeling stuck in patterns you can't quite explain. If you find yourself wanting to understand why you react the way you do, and you're ready to start shifting that, CBT offers a clear, collaborative path forward. Not sure if it's the right approach for your situation? Reach out — we can talk through what you're navigating and figure out together what will actually help.
